Lay people in Venezuela celebrate their first two Saints

  Venezuela Region

Amid tears of joy, hugs and rejoicing, we celebrated on October 19, 2025 in Latin America and especially the Venezuelan people the Canonization of the first Saints, brothers of our land, Saint Jose Gregorio Hernandez and Saint Carmen Rendiles.

In a private audience, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV called upon the Venezuelan people to come together and reconcile as sons of the same nation. His call for unity and reconciliation was particularly timely during these uncertain times. The call for unity and reconciliation was timely in these uncertain times gripping the country. During the meeting, the Holy Father recalled that the holiness of both should be an inspiration to all Venezuelans, a call to live with faith, humility and service to one’s neighbor.

For the Venezuelan people and for our Catholic Church, this is a historic moment filled with grace, an event that reaffirms devotion, faith, hope, and service on a path inspired by the example and witness of the lives of the new saints. They responded with love, obedience, and openness to the call to holiness. Saints of our century. Saints for all!

In cities like Caracas, Isnotú, Barquisimeto, among others, we have gathered even on these dates, to continue celebrating massively with masses, events, training, praises and many other manifestations of faith.

We, the Lay Claretians, give thanks to God for his goodness and mercy towards our people. Today the church has seven new saints, including two Venezuelans.
