Father Pedro Belderráin is the new General Advisor of the Lay Claretians Movement. He replaces Father Manuel Tamargo, who must assume new functions within the Congregation.
As a member of the General Council, the General Advisor is elected by the General Assembly of the Movement. However, since he is a consecrated person, this election is always conditional upon receiving the consent of his superior. This consent must be renewed each time a General Chapter is held, since it is a time of change in the planning and organization of a Congregation.
In this context, the General Council of the Movement was consulted on the possibility of a change in the person in charge of the service of General Councilor. The Movement, which has always wanted to place itself in the hands of the Spirit, and wishes to grow as a Claretian family, has not wanted to place any obstacle to the planning that the other branches, and in this case the Congregation of Claretian Missionaries, consider necessary in their internal organisation to face the new challenges.
Pedro Belderrain Belderrain was born in La Felguera (Asturias-Spain) in 1964. He was ordained a priest on April 21, 1990. Since 2007 he was part of the government team of the Claretian Province of Santiago, and from 2016 he was its Provincial Superior. Until this month of August 2021 he has been elected as Prefect of Apostolate and Consultor of the General Government of the Claretian Missionaries in its recent General Chapter.
With immense joy, from the Lay Claretians Movement we want to give a warm welcome to Fr. Pedro Belderrain, thanking his generous availability and asking God that his service to the Movement may be very fruitful. Manuel Tamargo for all his efforts and his immense work for the benefit of the laity, which has done and will continue to do so much good to the Movement, wishing that the Spirit will continue to accompany him and that he will continue to be a great help to the Movement.
